What could immediately remember about East Java?
Of course Surabaya. In addition to being the capital of the province of East Java, Surabaya is the second largest city after Jakarta. With a population of about 3 million people, Surabaya has become the city of Metropolis with a rich diversity in her. Additionally, Surabaya today has become the center of business, commerce, industry, and education in Indonesia.

Surabaya is known as City of Heroes, this is the case since the battle of Surabaya people's revolution against Dutch troops in Indonesia's independence.
Surabaya names, according to its etymology, derived from the word Sura and Baya or ata Suro Boyo, in the Java language. Suro is a type of shark, being boyo is a Javanese term for alligator. According to myth, the two animals are the most powerful animal that is also a symbol of the city of Surabaya to date. Another opinion says, that the name Surabaya is also taken from the term Ing Sura Baya, which means "brave face danger".

Surabaya is a major port and a commercial trading center in eastern Indonesia, and is now one terbesa city in Southeast Asia. Together with Lamongan to the northwest, Gresik to the west, Bangkalan in the northeast, Sidoarjo to the south, Mojokerto and Jombang in southwestern be called the Gate Kertosusila unity, such as Greater Jakarta in Jakarta and surrounding areas.

Surabaya city lies on the edge of the north coast of eastern Java, and Madura Strait directly adjacent to the north and east, in the south of Sidoarjo and Gresik regency in the west. Surabaya is located in the lowlands, with a height between 3-6 M in asata sea level, it is also that promote air temperature in Surabaya relatively hot and dry.

As the provincial capital, Surabaya is also home to many offices and business centers. Surabaya's economy is also influenced by the recent growth in foreign industries and industry segments that will continue to evolve, especially in terms of property, where the skyscrapers, malls, plaza, apartments and hotels will continue to wake up each year.

As a metropolitan city, Surabaya inhabited by multi-ethnic and many tribes, like the Chinese people, the Javanese, Batak, Madura, Bali, Bugis, Sundanese and more. There are also citizens of foreign countries including Malaysia, China, India, Arab and European.

The language used most of the day-to-day use of the Java language, a dialect Suroboyoan. This dialect is quite different from the language of the Java Central Java Surakarta or Yogyakarta. Dialect Suroboyoan have the intonation and height, and seem hard.

Although Surabaya is much influenced by the diverse cultures, but the authenticity of the culture is still alive and thriving today. Diverse native cultures that can be seen from various events such as, the art of puppetry, ludrug, remo dance and other Javanese culture.

In terms of tourism, like a city full of history, Surabaya has several attractions that can be visited are associated with the history of the past. Plus, Surabaya has the culinary diversity that has always sought by tourists who come in, such as: salad pestle, rawon, duck rice, mussels rice cake, Longtong racing and much more.
