Komodo Island


Komodo Island is an island in the eastern island of Sumbawa, which is separated by Sape Strait. Komodo island has long been known as the natural habitat of Komodo, therefore Komodo Island to become a "Komodo National Park" which is managed by the central government.

Komodo Island are in the western end of East Nusa Tenggara province, which is the territory of the District of Komodo, West Manggarai district.

Recorded until August 2009 Komodo dragons can reproduce very well so as to achieve 1300 dragons. Not only on the island of Komodo, Rinca Island and Gili Montang is another habitat of Komodo. If the calculated number of dragons residing on the island of Komodo, Rinca and Gili Motang estimated at about 2500 dragons. The remaining approximately 100 Komodo, are in the "Nature Reserve Wae Wuul" that's not the Komodo National Park Area, but is the mainland island of Flores.

Besides Komodo, this island also store a variety of exotic flora, such as "wood Sepang" used by locals as a medicinal and dye clothing, tree Sterculia oblongata nitak or believed to be useful as a medicine, and seeds such as peas tasty.
